HOW TO PREPARE FOR CSS / PCS DURING JOB?
Since I was still in college when I took up the study for civil services, it was relatively a care-free adventure.
But I’ve seen many on-job people who find it very difficult to sail on both the boats simultaneously.
So today’s post is about such people who are doing a job and still want to prepare for civil service examination.
First thing first, kudos to your motivation and resilience. It takes a lot of courage and motivation to make both the thing go along. But since you are willing to do it, let’s appreciate that first.
Now we come to another part, how to prepare for CSS/PCS while being on 9 to 5 job. I have a few suggestions to offer here.
I have seen many successful candidates who did that, so it is not impossible. All you need to do is to follow those people.
I have distilled some of the traits of such people and some of the patterns which are common between them. So, let’s get started.

It is important to know how much time you need to give to your preparation. Many people ask, is 3 hours enough? Is 5 hours enough? I think nothing is enough if it isn’t consistent.
Most students give only 1-2 hours to their preparation. A fraction of them give 3-5 hours. And in exceptional cases, I’ve seen people giving 6-8 hours to their studies.
My suggestion would be to give 3 to 5 hours of study.
Now let’s say if you give 5 hours of study, it means that in 6 working days, you are studying about a worth of 30 hours/week.
Now that we have calculated how much time do we need to give to preparation, it would be easy for us to schedule our timetable.
𝟮͟.͟ ͟𝗧͟𝗮͟𝗸͟𝗲͟ ͟𝗼͟𝘂͟𝘁͟ ͟𝗼͟𝗻͟𝗹͟𝘆͟ ͟𝟮͟𝟱͟ ͟𝘁͟𝗼͟ ͟𝟯͟𝟬͟ ͟𝗵͟𝗼͟𝘂͟𝗿͟𝘀͟ ͟𝗳͟𝗿͟𝗼͟𝗺͟ ͟𝘆͟𝗼͟𝘂͟𝗿͟ ͟𝘄͟𝗲͟𝗲͟𝗸͟.͟
Saying this is easy, but doing it is different altogether. So, how to do it? Don’t worry, I’ve got it figured.
The first thing you should do is wake up at 6 am. Yes, 6 am!
It must be difficult for you, but I’ve been waking up at 6 am since around 4 months and it has given me a very good time to do things which I can’t do otherwise.
Waking up at 6 will add 2 quality hours to your life.
𝟯͟.͟ ͟𝗦͟𝘁͟𝘂͟𝗱͟𝘆͟ ͟𝗶͟𝗻͟ ͟𝘁͟𝘄͟𝗼͟ ͟𝗰͟𝗵͟𝘂͟𝗻͟𝗸͟𝘀͟ ͟𝗼͟𝗳͟ ͟𝟮͟ ͟𝗵͟𝗼͟𝘂͟𝗿͟𝘀͟
Once you start giving first 2 hours to your study in the morning, slowly build on it.
Once you get back from your job, unwind yourself. Take a shower, relax, have your dinner, clean the kitchen, listen to music, play with your cat, or watch Netflix. Whatever that makes you feel fresher.
But do this to only 8 pm. You only got 3 hours to do all of this.
The next 1.5 hours should again be dedicated to your study. 8 to 9.30 pm slot is for your study.
𝟰͟.͟ ͟𝗛͟𝗶͟𝘁͟ ͟𝘁͟𝗵͟𝗲͟ ͟𝗯͟𝗲͟𝗱͟ ͟𝗯͟𝗲͟𝗳͟𝗼͟𝗿͟𝗲͟ ͟𝟭͟𝟬͟ ͟𝗽͟𝗺͟
Waking up at 6 am is ambitious, but achievable. However, if you don’t stick to this routine, you won’t be able to wake up early. After all, you need 8 hours of rejuvenating sleep. Therefore, give yourself a reasonable sleep time by going to bed by 10 pm.
𝟱͟.͟ ͟𝗦͟𝗮͟𝘁͟𝘂͟𝗿͟𝗱͟𝗮͟𝘆͟𝘀͟ ͟𝗮͟𝗿͟𝗲͟ ͟𝘀͟𝗽͟𝗲͟𝗰͟𝗶͟𝗮͟𝗹͟.͟
Since most of the offices which remain open from 9 to 5 are usually off over the weekends, make the most of your Saturdays. Study in two chunks of three hours at a time. Set your schedule on Saturday on your own. It’s your day.
Now let’s calculate how much time you actually gave to your study by following this.
2+2=4 Hours per day x 5= 20 Hours every week on weekdays.
20+6 Hours on Saturdays= 26 hours
26 hours per week is more than an average aspirant gives to her studies. You can add more hours on Saturdays and Sundays too if you want to up the game. But whatever you decide, stick tour schedule, and you’ll ace this examination.
Remember, it’s all about priorities. If you’re not able to follow this, reconsider your priorities.

Listen to audio lectures on different subjects while you commute between home and office. That would be the best way to utilise your time productively.
