6 MONTHS PLAN YOU NEED TO COMPLETE CSS PREPARATION (PART 3 OF 4)
This blogpost consists of 4 parts because it is very detailed. This post will be the third part.
If you haven’t read about the earlier two parts, I would strongly recommend you to read them first.
Here are the links:
In the previous posts, I covered some frequently asked questions regarding preparation for CSS in six months. In part 2, I discussed the preparation plan for the first two months and the subjects that need to be covered.
In this post, I will discuss the plan for the third and fourth months.
So, let’s get started.

Since we have already covered the Précis and Comprehension sections in the earlier months, this month should be reserved for Idea Expansion.
I know this is not included in the syllabus now, but it is a fruitful exercise that will improve your written expression.
I have discussed various aspects of idea expansion in a post at great length. If you wish to read it, you can find it on my blog page. It is titled “How I learned to write essay in 30 minutes a day.”
For idea expansion, there is no particular book I can suggest. However, you will get an idea from Sundry Reflections by Manzoor Mirza.
I will also try to write a blog on “How to write an Idea Expansion” soon.
In short, it is a mini-essay that employs all the mechanics of essay writing. It consists of an introduction, body and conclusion. It is roughly 3 to 4 paragraphs depending on the number of arguments you have.
My recommendation would be to write at least 15 idea expansions, 5 Comprehensions and 3 Précis in the third month.
Like Précis and Comprehension, Idea Expansion will also take around an hour first, but slowly it will be reduced to around 40 minutes.
You will be left with around 2 hours in the morning after practising Idea expansion, précis or comprehension.
Dedicate the remaining time of morning session to Pakistan Affairs.
The first thing to do is to see the syllabus and past papers. Choose the book accordingly, and then stick to it.
Read those chapters only from which questions frequently come in the paper.
For instance, I wasted five precious days reading the Five Year Plans, which never appeared in papers.
The evening session should be reserved for the third optional subject. Whatever subject you choose, please stick to the same ground rules I told you for Pakistan Affairs.
Keep making notes of the optional subject. Do not move to the next chapter without making notes of the previous one first.

You are now in the fourth month of your preparation. By now, you must be feeling ready for writing essays. But not yet. You might have heard that haste makes waste. It most certainly does.
Instead, start with making outlines of essays. Now, this might look a little strange that I am asking you to make outlines of essays and not proper essays. Do not worry; we will write those later.
In this month, take out at least fifteen topics. These topics should be from politics to religion, women rights, education, security challenges to Pakistan et cetera.
Once you select these topics, start reading on those topics from various sources. Do some research on them from books, magazines, blogs or essays of your colleagues or some seniors. But do not read the essay on every topic.
I know it is tough to keep control on oneself, especially when one is the beginner yet. The feeling of a lack of knowledge will force you to read everything.
Most of it would be irrelevant; therefore, do not indulge in junk reading.
Stick to those fifteen topics. Give yourself two days to reading about the topic and making an outline. Before outlining, make sure that you read at least four essays on a topic written from different perspectives.
For instance, if you are reading about essay on Women Rights, then you should read on “Women rights in Islam”, “Women rights in Pakistan”, “Is gender equality a myth in Pakistan?” “Challenges to Women Empowerment in Pakistan” et cetera.
More would be good; four is the minimum number.
Outlining might look complicated at first. If you think you have read four essays and you should write outlines of those four essays separately, then do as you please.
The important point is that you make an outline and collect material for those essays.
I will soon come up with how to outline essays.
Do not forget to make a journal in which you put every vital detail and information regarding the topic. Fill your journal with at least 15 essay topics and outlines.
In the evening session, read a fourth optional subject as you usually do. Keep referring back to syllabus and past papers. Also, keep making notes.
