Ans. She could save only one dollar and eighty-seven cents for Christmas.

Ans. Della felt proud in the beauty of her hair because it was more beautiful than any queen’s jewels and gifts. It was like a falling stream of brown water. It reached below her knee.

Ans. Della had only one dollar and eighty-seven cents to but a Christmas gift for her dearest Jim. The James Dillingham Youngs were very proud of Jim’s gold watch and Della’s hair. Both these things were most precious for them. Della sells her beautiful long hair and buys a gold watch chain. When Jim comes she presents him the chain and explains the reason of selling her hair. Then Jim presents her a beautiful set of combs with jewels. He also discloses that he has sold his watch to buy these combs. They lose their belongings but save the noble spirit.

Q 15. What is the moral of the story?
Ans. The story teaches us that we should sacrifice our precious belongings to gain spiritual happiness. It reveals that exchange of gifts on holy occasions makes life most lovable. Love is a driving force that motivates an individual to forget his personal desires and take care of others. Love is to be guarded each moment with discretion, wisdom and intelligence.

Ans. She wanted something almost worth the honour of belonging to Jim.
