1. What is ‘Dengue Fever?’
Dengue Fever has been a growing menace for the people of Pakistan for the last few years. It is caused by the bite of a specific kind of a mosquito. What’s special about this mosquito is that it has white stripes on its body and it bites only in the day time usually 2-3 hours after sunrise and 2-3 hours before sunset. It has caused so many deaths during the last two or three years. Still, there are so many patients of dengue fever in hospitals.
2. Its symptoms are following.
a. Slight fever.
b. Very low power of resistance.
c. Weakness.
d. Vomiting.
e. Reduction of white blood cells.
A patient of ‘Dengue fever’ always remains in the condition of slight fever. Cold, cough, headache and vomiting are other symptoms. A patient goes to shock. The white blood cells of the patient are reduced. His power of resistance becomes weaker and weaker. Red spots appear on the body. In case of serious illness. bleeding starts from different parts of body i.e. mouth, nose, etc.
3. Its reasons are uncleanliness and unhygienic conditions which give birth to mosquitoes.
Keeping in view the complications of the problem, the Punjab Government left no stone unturned to handle this problem. It launched a special campaign against ‘Dengue Fever.’ The details about this disease were included in the syllabi of the students. All the educational institutes were specially advised to make the students as well as other people belonging to all walks of life aware of its dangers and precautions to avoid it.
4. We can adapt the following steps to overcome this problem.
We have observed that most of the schools, colleges and universities arranged ‘Walks’ and ‘Seminars’ against it. In hospitals, the patients of this disease are treated specially by the doctors.
No doubt, the efforts of the Punjab Government are enviable in this regard but we cannot ignore the role of media which played a great role to put an end to this disease. However, I would also like to offer some suggestions to remove this problem as soon as possible because the efforts made individually will help a lot to overcome this disease.
1. We should use the mosquito net at night
2. We should try our best to have cleanliness around us because uncleanliness gives birth not only to mosquitoes but also many other diseases.
3. Full sleeves shirts should be used to avoid the bite of a mosquito.
4. Do not let the water stand stagnant because it is the major reason for the birth of mosquitoes.
5. Doors and windows should be fixed with net.
6. Do not let the water stand in the flower pots, and flower beds, etc.
If these steps are taken, we can avoid disease and its dangers.
