Holding a grain of millet in her beak

The mother sparrow has come to feed.

The young ones are so tiny and small

From head to toe they are beaks

                 When they cry.

One grain to be fed to the ten young ones

toe when they cry for food. In fact, the poet has symbolically told us that children are helpless and
utterly dependent upon their parents, particularly their mother. Thus, the mother sparrow has only one
seed in her beak to give it to her ten babies. Thus, the mother sparrow confronted with a universal
problem, that is, the scarcity of food.

To whom the mother sparrow should feed?

                      Conjoining beak with beak

                      With whom should she solace?

Explanation:

In these lines, the mother sparrow has only one grain in her beak, but there are ten members of her brood. Therefore, she is in a difficult situation. Being a mother, she loves all of them equally. The mother is a source of comfort and consolation for all of them, but she cannot give the single grain to all of them. She wants to give at least something to them but as a matter of fact it is impossible. She has to cope with the miserable situation. She can soothe only one of them, but she does not know to whom she should console.

   Fissuring the atom,

You have learnt to weep and wail in a loud tone,

Splitting the grain,

You have learnt to set life on foot

Could you split the grain?

One grain to be fed to the ten young ones.

Explanation:

In these lines, the style of the poet is symbolic. According to him man has devised the methods breaking up an atom causing a lot of havoc and devastation. The humanity has suffered a lot because the misuse of this knowledge. This knowledge has made man cry and weep loudly. But the knowledge of  breaking a small seed into small fragments is required in this age. This learning will contribute to the real welfare of humanity. In short, the remarkable wisdom lies in breaking up a grain to give life to human  beings, and not in splitting an atom to annihilate humanity from the face of the earth.
